Iron Torch Ride
June 21st to July 6th, 2007
Worlds Longest Torch Run for Special Olympics
Iron Butt Ultimate Coast to Coast
"The Largest Group Ride"
On June 21st 2007, a group of motorcycle riders will ride for a very good cause. This is not unlike any given weekend when the spring rolls around, bikers look for reasons to ride the iron horse. Yet this will be different, can we say never been done or can it be done? This ride will break all records to show to people everywhere some of the same determination that can be found on the faces of participants of the Special Olympics. This ride is for them, the Special Olympics athletes, as bikers will ride from Prudhoe Bay Alaska to Key West Florida. What makes this ride so monumental and record breaking will be in the ride itself, 50 riders Ocean to Ocean carrying the Special Olympics Torch on motorcycles. Each rider will be riding for his or her own State, Province or Nation. Leading the way will be Public Safety Officers all 6,000 miles. The Law Enforcement community has worked together to support the Torch Run for Special Olympics for many years and this year they invite you to join them.
Celebrating it's 25th Anniversary in 2006, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. The Torch Run has raised $21.4 million for Special Olympics Programs around the world in 2005. More than 85,000 Law Enforcement Officers carried the Flame of Hope across 35 nations, raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics.
As the Iron Torch Ride comes through your state you are welcome to join in as travel south. or come and meet us in Key West. We will be waiting for you when you arrive and the thank-you party will begin. The ride will be a reflection of all America. Sponsors of the ride can ride with us or help a rider raise funds for the Special Olympics. Riders have offered themselves as billboards; you can outfit them and bikes in your logo. You can help in the ride by sponsoring any spin-off rides or events that go along with the ride weekend. The Iron Torch Ride will break records in fund raising as well, let's see what 50 riders can do for the community. All media are welcome to ride in this event and join in the record.
The host of this event is the Georgia 7 Chapter of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. The chapter is very involved in the Metro Atlanta area based in Newnan. They have raised over $200,000.00 for local charities in just 5 short years. If you would like to be a rider or sponsor for this event please call 770-719-8306 or see the webpage (http://www.blueknightsgavii.org/irontorch_ride) for more information.
We are asking for the dates when the ride will be in Georgia so you can participate if you want. We will keep you posted!!!
