The wife and I rode the Cherohala Skyway and the Tail of the Dragon yesterday. It was our first time riding up there, and it was GREAT. We can't wait to go back.

At Deal's Gap there were tons of bikes to look at and the place had a very festive atmosphere. Cops were everywhere on the Dragon, and the speed for most of it is only 30 mph, which is about the right speed for some of the REALLY tight turns, but it felt super slow on most of it. I guess too many people have been riding it like a race track and have ruined it for the rest of us.

We enjoyed the scenery of the Skyway , but the Skyway was not as curvy, and much faster then I thought it would be. I could take most of the curvs at 50+ mph with my wife on the back, and not feel like I was pushing it at all. However, that is what makes that road so dangerous. They say it is more dangerous than the Dragon, and due to the higher speeds I blelieve it. No cops were seen on the Skyway, except the one leaving Tellico Plains in route to a wrecked sport bike rider we passed on the way out. I did not stop, because it looked like ther was pleanty of help there already. We saw two ambulances, a rescue truck and a fire truck also in route. I hope that nobody was seriously hurt.

Sounds like you had a great ride. The road there is nice but I have to agree that many people underestimate the Cherohala!

Ride safe...
