The wife and I are thinking about taking a ride up to the Suches / Helen area this weekend. Anybody want to join us? We ride a sport/tour which means we are faster than cruisers, but slower than sportbikes. However, we don't mind slowing down a little if you don't.

Ya'll missed it...we had a wonderful time and the weather was perfect. We left Calhoun about 8:00am and went through Talking Rock/Dahlonega/Helen/Suches and back.
We stopped in Helen and did a little shopping. Stopped at Anna Ruby Falls and saw a big timber rattler in the trail. Stopped at Dukes Creek Falls and saw a little garter snake on the trail. It seemed to be a good day for snakes, which is appropriate, because the roads were certainly snaky.
We ate dinner at Two Wheels Only in Suches and met a really nice couple from Dawsonville on a GSXR1000. After dinner, we followed them into Dahlonega. It had gotten dark, and I was unfamiliar with the area, and to be honest, I was a little worried about that long ride home through the "middle-of-nowhere". Mostly, I was afraid of hitting a deer, or some other furry creature...especially while riding alone, because if something did happen, it could take a long time for help to come.
I should have gassed up in Dahlonega. We had to go out of our way to Dawsonville to get gas. I wanted to go back through Talking Rock, but we might have run out of gas before we made it to the Fairmount (the nearest gas station). Talking Rock is not big enough to have a gas station and I forgot how far it is from Suches to Fairmount.
Anyway...we returned home, unscathed, about 10:45 Saturday night, exhausted, but satisfied that we lived another day to the fullest.

I rode up that way yesterday and the traffic was just too much for me to handle. I rode something a bit more subtle like out on 52 and 183, nice and scenic and little traffic to deal with. I would like to hit the mountains on weekdays.

I'm with you on the Helen traffic, ga skyline. It was a mistake going to Helen. One that I will not repeat this weekend.
We are going again this Saturday. The couple we met on our last "Epic Ride" to the mountains wants to meet us up there (maybe in Dawsonville or Suches). I'm not sure where or when yet, but if you want to go, I will let you know. You are welcome to ride along. The more the merrier.

That sounds awesome, I am hoping one day to do the Cheriola Skyway but that would be like a whole day trip. Let me know what you are looking at and when. Would it be okay if I asked one of my riding buddies along? Thank you for your consideration.

Invite whomever you wish. Like I said, "the more the merrier". I haven’t checked with the couple we are meeting, but I’m pretty sure that they would love to ride with a group.
We are planning to meet in the mountains around 9:00 or 10:00 and we plan to be home, or at least out of the mountains by dark.
I will let you know when we have a meeting place confirmed.

Ok, ga sky, we have a plan. We are going to meet at Two Wheels Only (TWO) in Suches at 9:30 Saturday. We will probably do the Booger Hollow or the Aska Rd/Toccoa River Loop. You can check them out at this link http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~libssd/nga/
I know it is early, I will have to leave the house by 7:30, but the early start should insure that we are out of the mountains, and hopefully home by dark.
Looking forward to it. Should be a good time.
