I have been riding less than a year but I've managed to go on some great rides. I learned to ride in the Ridge and Valley section of NW Ga which provided me with lots of scenery and plenty of road challenges to begin. I was garaging my bike up at my parents for the first few months because I figured downtown Atlanta would not be the best place for a beginning motorcyclist.

Now that I have my bike down in Marietta at my current residence I miss being able to hop on and ride in any direction without running into any significant amount of traffic. There are some good spots like the Kennesaw Mtn Battlefield Park nearby but I have to ride a fair amount to get to some of the lesser traveled backroads which I enjoy riding the most.

My brother and I went on a couple of great rides during the warmer months. One through NW Ga and Northern Al and one though Ga and Tn. The trip through Alabama took us up to Huntsville by way of Mentone and Fort Payne, Alabama. It was a fun trip and crossing the Tennesee River at the foot of Lookout Mountain is something I'll never forget.

I especially enjoyed the trip up to Tennessee. We began at my brother's house north of Rome and passed through Dalton catching Hwy 71 north. We stopped at Red Clay historic park right on the GA/TN line and continued up to Cleveland where we cut east along the Oconee(or is it Occoee?) river. The road was twisty and provided several senic stops at the TVA power stations. My only complaint was that the cagers seemed to be in a hurry and tended to pile up behind us(take it easy, it's the weekend).

We headed south down 5 through Copperhill and down into Blue Ridge. We hit Ellijay and took 281 west towards Carters Lake and through some lucky blind turns ended up passing the dam which is pretty impressive at night. Somehow we made it to 156 and through Calhoun then back homw where I managed to drop my bike turning into my brother's driveway(embarassing but it didn't hurt the bike).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would like to share one of their favorite rides. I aim to do a cross-country trip eventually but I know I don't have the endurance or the skills right now. Maybe there'll be a trip to Myrtle Beach or Daytona this spring.
