My friend and I took our bikes (VStar 1100 & Nomad) down to Atlanta in early October - plan on flying down in late Feb or early March to do a mid winter ride ... (will p/up bikes for the return trip in mid April). Our wives want to find a central spot to "motel swimming pool/shop" while we do day rides - we can meet them wherever the good spot would be to "hub" out of. Any thoughts ...? On our way down we took 219 from Buffalo thru to the Smokey Mountain Parkway ... great ride and that's our style.
Any thoughts for a great place to "motel hub our wives" and we day ride .. like spokes on a wheel - say for 3 to 4 days?

The problem here isn't where to put the guys but the women! You said they like shopping. The Alpharetta, GA area sounds about right. There are numerous sites for shopping in the area. High class/high dollar shopping in Buckhead (about 20-30 minutes away), outlet mall shopping (about 20 minutes away) or mall shopping (5 - 30 minutes away). The hotels and restaurants in Alpharetta are reasonable and plentiful. And there are also several spas in the area.

As for riding, there is the north Geogia mountains (get a copy of the Info-Map http://www.info-map.com/cycle/ ), Tail of the Dragon ( http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ ) or Gatlinburg, TN (but the ladies will probably want to go there with you).
