I went to a local ride a few weeks back with a friend. I always ride with a Joe Rocket jacket and an Arai helmet. My friend of course is a little less safety conscious. He rides with a t-shirt and a plastic half helmet. Right after we pulled in and parked, I had a woman that said she was an EMT come up to me and tell me that my DOT and Snell approved Arai helmet was unsafe. She told me that the helmet was not DOT approved and that I needed to get rid of it and buy a different one before I became an organ donor. Granted, Arai helmets are used by the vast majority of motorcycle racers and considered to be one of the safest helmets made. Of course, she said nothing to my friend who was very amused by the whole event.

Let me just say that if I do ever crash and burn I do not want her as the EMT on the scene!

Dear Biker girl..im a georgia paramedic and i'v never heard such nonsense!I have had the displeasure of patching up several riders over the last 15 years, some of course, didnt make it.In that time I have seen helmets of lesser quality help save lives. So enjoy your Arai!

There was an article written recently?? Past year or so I guess where there were many helmets that were not ACTUALLY TESTED to be sure they conformed but DID have the sticker. From what I remember it was not cheap plastic helmets but different versions of respected helmets. Aria may have been one of them. I am betting it is just a technicality.
Do a search online to find it.

Ever wonder what a Snell certifaication means?

Check out http://www.smf.org/

For a list of Snell certified helmets, check out http://www.smf.org/certlist/std_M2005.html

And by the way, all Aria helmets are on the list.
