Honda VTX1800 vs. Yamaha RoadStar
I recently had the opportunity to ride both the Honda VTX1800 and the Yamaha RoadStar. Both are sweet looking cruisers with lots of horses. Sitting on them, you can tell they are big bikes but they are surprisingly well balanced. You can tell the Honda is the heavier of the two bikes and the seat on the Yamaha is more comfortable.
When I took them out for a spin, they both performed as expected. Both bikes handle well and accelerate nicely for heavy bikes. The floor boards threw me at first. I scraped one coming out of the parking lot and only thought it fair to scrape the other one in a tight turn.
There isn't much that I can say bad about these bikes. The Yamaha had the smoother ride of the two but I would be happy with either one. If I had to choose one, that would be tough. I would have to check out resale and reliability but the Yamaha slightly out-ranks the Honda on my scorecard.
Honda VTX1800 Specifications:
Displacement - 1795cc
Dry Weight - 756lbs
Transmission - 5 speed
Seat Height - 27.4"
Retail - $13,500
Yamaha RoadStar Specifications:
Displacement - 1670cc
Dry Weight - 688lbs
Transmission - 5 speed
Seat Height - 28"
Retail - $11,400
Note:
Before you start flaming me for my opinion, this review is just my opinion! I understand that different riders have different preferences and skill levels. Also, two identical bikes can ride and perform differently. Your opinion and experience may differ.
