Hello all. I just started riding and am looking for a good place to buy my leather. I got my jacket at a Wilson's leather outlet. I checked into leatherup.com, but was unsure. Anyone ever use them? Any other websites someone would recommend? Stores that have good prices?

Thanks,

B. J.

Cycle Gear has some decent prices and often great sales. There are 3 locations in the Georgia.

You have one in Lawrenceville, Roswell/Alpharetta, and I think Smyrna.

I take it you want cruiser stuff and I know they have cruiser oriented stuff in there. But I'd suggest getting a decent looking Dainese, Alpinestar, Teknic, or even Joe Rocket leathers. Those companies have less sportbike oriented gear(Teknic has a seperate line for cruisers) except it will hold up well in a crash.

BMW riders buy some of the best gear available out there, and they tend to take good care of it. Of course, I would never recommend buying a used helmet from anyone, but used clothing can go a long way. I bought waterproof Teknic GORTEX padded and insulated riding pants for $100 3yrs ago from a guy on here. I wear them everyday, every season, and I am a two wheeled daily commuter. Nuttin wrong with them yet. I bought a new FirstGear mesh padded jacket last May for $180 and it is falling apart.

And, to comment on the leather jacket question. IMHO, there are two kinds of leather jackets. One that is thinner, made more as a fashion thing to look cool and would not hold up as well as you would hope if you are sliding down the asphalt. And then there is the leather jackets worn as protective gear for motorcyclists. Thick, padded, warm, and will hold up to numerous hits to the ground. Some with or without plastic insert "armour". Vanson is great, but pricy, and there are those that Smit mention above too. As long as the stitching is in good shape, used is not a bad thing.

If you are out near Dallas, there is a nice little bike shop out there called "Bikers gone wild". She can fit you with some good gear.
