Hello Group,
This Yankee thought he would drop in and say hi, so .... Hi. :thumb:
I'm 45 and have ridden sportbikes for 9 years now. I took a 20 year hiatus from motorcycling for college, marriage, and other things in life that took up more time.
I'm very active in the Minneapolis / St. Paul motorcycling community. Our riding season is much shorter than you lucky folks get but I do manage to ride 8 - 10k per year of almost exclusively twistie miles. We ride the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin almost every Saturday or Sunday which starts about 30 miles from my house. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driftless_Area
Depending on time allowed we ride anywhere between 200 - 450 mile days.
I also organize 2 rides per year in the Ozark Mountains of Northwestern Arkansas. We trailer our bikes there (hey, cut me some slack .... it's 670 miles from here and we don't want to burn up that much expensive rubber riding there  ). IMO Arkansas has THE best roads within a days travel of where we live. I've ridden the Appalachian Mountains and I KNOW you folks have fantastic roads as well, but you're too far away, hehe.
I ride the PACE style most of the time, but if I'm on a road I know well I will scrape my 190's all the way over and push the envelope farther than I should some times. Lady luck has been with me so far in my riding life and other than dropping my bike at parking lot speeds (and don't ya ALWAYS do that in front of others and never when you're alone? ..... grrrrrr :( ) I've never been down.
OK, enough about me. I just wanted to let you know where I'm coming from.

I'm curious how you folks handle the "politics" and hassles than often arise with "group rides". I'm not talking about rides where you are with 2 or 3 guys who you've ridden with many times, but posted "open" rides.
Invariably there are post after the ride like, "those guys are crazy fast", or "those guys are crazy slow", or yada yada yada ...... I'm sure you know the drill.
When I post a ride I try to detail EXACTLY what folks can expect with my ride. I provide a link to web page describing PACE style of riding (like this one http://www.sportrider.com/ride/146_9306_motorcycle_pacing/index.html or this one http://www.fjrowners.ws/pace.html ). I stress it isn't a ride for new riders, I stress we behave in small towns and keep the speeds for the country, I try to cover all the bases.
Most of the time we have a great time but sometimes I get flamed for being a "ride Nazi", or flamed for riding too fast, too slow .....
I know you can't please everyone so I just let most of it slide.

So, how do you folks handle group rides?

Welcome aboard!

:welcome:

Many of the charity rides are escorted so no problems there. With poker runs, everyone knows where the stops are and takes their time. As for large group rides that I have been, everyone knows the stops and we go to destinations that are biker friendly. That way, if the group gets broken up (which they always do), we all arrive at the same place. The rule is...no rider rides alone (for safety reasons).

Hope this helps...
