Everyone grab your torches and pitchforks, a motorcycle is coming...

I came across a web site today that I first found amusing but as I read more, I found it scary. It is http://www.noiseoff.org/motorcycles.shtml.

They seem to be a group of people that take an issue and go to the extreme with it. They are trying to battle noise pollution. So bikes with loud pipes are high on their list. But they have taken it a little too far...

If you see a motorcycle shop opening up in your community, organize with your neighbors. Stage a protest and send a media alert to local newspaper and television news outlets so they can cover the event. Attend community group meetings and speak out against motorcycle events where a noise variance is required.

I don't ride with loud pipes on my bike, I prefer a quieter ride but I'm not going to force my opinion down your throat. And I am certainly not going to try to shut down a legitimate business.

And my personal favorite...

Inexperienced and aggressive bikers often cause accidents and fatalities on the road endangering you and your family.

That may be true but what about inexperienced and aggressive drivers in cars and trucks? And what does that have to do with noise pollution?

Keep an eye out for groups like this. The media loves these kind of people.

We are dedicated to combating this urban blight that is ruining communities everywhere.

Aren't there more pressing issues in the world right now that need to be addressed before looking at bikes with loud pipes?

Happy motoring!

I get where they are coming from. However I know that when I'm driving in my car and a loud bike is in my blind spot, I can tell it's there due to it's pipes. It's hard to locate a quite bike. They tent to slip through traffic quick and quiet. I however like to be noticed. The more people who can hear and see my bike the fewer will cut me off.

I can see the issue both ways.

Our first house was built in the 20's and had windows that rattled in the wind, or when a truck was down shifting into the red light at the corner. When a motorcycle shop opened down the road, the noise from riders revving their bikes to "test them" after getting repaired or accesorized made the situation very difficult to live with. The town eventually enacted a noise law and the situation got better after a few guys got tickets.

On the other hand, I've been cut off while riding with my head light & light bar on while wearing a mil spec hi-viz neon vest. When you pull up and confront the driver, their response is always "I didn't see you". Maybe the solution is a Stebel Air Horn for "Loud On Demand"

I like the air horn idea! People need something to wake them up when the drive. They are either zoned out or playing with their phone.
