I had a little sticker shock last week when I went by Stone Mountain Harley to get some info on a 20k service. The service manager quoted $420 for the service with synthetic lubes. Is this about standard? I had Harley (North Shore Harley of Slidell LA) put on new chrome struts at 16k but the SM does not know that and I don't know if it would make a diff in the cost.

Yeah, that sounds about right.. An indy-shop should do it for about $100.00 less, and you can do it yourself for around $100.00 and it's not hard at all to complete.

If you are interested, let me know.. I have the shop manual and can tell you what needs to be done.

Since I am retired, I would be more than happy to save $300 as I do have more time than money. I have never turned a wrench on the Harley but I have rebuilt a few car motors, clutches, transmissions, water pumps etc, etc. I don't have a clue about the "new" struts (new about 6k ago) need to be drained and refilled or what ever service they are scheduled at 20k. I would presume Harley changed the oil and what ever in the struts when they made the swap. I would be delighted to get the gouge about the 20k service. Thanks.

Doing it yourself is easy, especially if you have experience under the hood of a car.
It's all the same....just nuts and bolts and oil.....just in different places :)

Shoot me an e-mail .. I have the service specs in Excel format. I will send them to you.
Put something in the header so I know what it's for and don't delete it for spam...
